In the 1939 register, at 4 Stanley House Cottages,Bury Road, Newmarket, were his father William [11-9-1887] stud worker, his mother Muriel [12-1-1890] and brtoher George [16-9-1922], a butcher's assistant. There are 3 closed records. He married Sylvia Primrose WADDY of Ashley, Cambridgeshire in 1943. |

The 2nd D.C.L.I. were part of 4th infantry Division and where involved around this time at the Trasimere Line, a German defensive line
north of Rome where the Germans fought hard to stop the northward advance of the Allies in Italy after the fall of Rome on June 4th Charles and several of his battalion were moved to Assisi on 12th July 1945. The map showing where they were originally buried has not yet been found. In many burial concentrations situations the report has not been published on line due to the chance of some harrowing details which may be upsetting. Unlike in WW1 where basically just an Army map reference is given. |
